November is here, and her chilled breath already
waits outside our door. November in Minnesota sometimes brings shoveling from
early snows, bulky coats and boots, and temporary goodbyes to bicycles and full
blooming gardens. But November also brings families together as they huddle
around the Thanksgiving table and swap holiday gift ideas for the coming month.
Old recipes are pulled out, phones are ringing, and plans are made. I'll take
the snow any day when it also brings such warm gatherings.
November also offers an added bonus –– the smile it
puts on my husband's face because he's surrounded by snacks and food and
grandchildren.
What does November mean to you? Do you have a
favorite recipe you'd like to share that finds your table every November? Send
it to me and I'll post it with your name on my blog.
Happy days to all of you!
Today in Massachusetts is an unseasonally sunny day in the 60s!
ReplyDeleteIt's pretty warm here today to, but I don't expect that to last throughout the month of November.
DeleteWhere are you Debi . I'm in England and I assume you're in the states. I did try to write on your google thingamee about getting older but couldn't work it out. Then, happily, found your blog
DeleteNot sure where Silver Fox lives but it wasn't in the 60s on Cape Cod. It was way colder. But it's supposed to get near 70 the next 2 days. I love November cause it's my bday month and every few years it falls on Thanksgiving, which was a lot of fun when I was a kid.
ReplyDeleteHey, it's my birthday month too. Sometimes mine falls on Thanksgiving as well. Cool.
DeleteI haven't decided if I'm going to go with 29 years older 39 years old this year, but I can always toss a coin. :-)
November means a couple of family birthdays, and Thanksgiving with the whole family, and all of the good recipes are in Grandma's head. This year i have to watch her make things and write it all down.
ReplyDeleteI wish I would've watched a lot more and wrote things down. But it probably wont matter. I'm really a fan of making things that take three or fewer ingredients. But my husband – luckily – loves to bake.
DeleteWas at church this morning and when doing the sign of peace my friend said -"ooo , your hands are freezing." Yes, it's cold here in England but the sun is shining , the robin was singing this morning and I'm just off to get a few weeds up in the garden before the weather turns and I won't get out there again till the spring. Hate the thought of the winter and the cold and the heavy heating bills - oh well, maybe I'll hibernate till March xxx
ReplyDeleteI do a lot of hibernating during the cold months myself. Today it's pretty warm, considering it's Minnesota. I try not to think about heating bills. Of course, the day they come in the mail I have to think about them – but that's not today! :-)
DeleteIt's hard for me to imagine that cold and snowy weather has already arrived in the US while here in South Africa seem to have just said goodbye to winter with barely spring arriving and summer arriving with a major blast! Of course, from now on, everything just gets faster and faster with everything happening at the
ReplyDeletespeed of light ..
Happy Thanksgiving and all the preparations for it :)
You have a good Thanksgiving as well.
DeleteYou describe Minnesota November so well. Here, we have the Santa Ana winds going, and the temps are going back into the 80s (high), before they'll return to where they should be. I love this time of year for all the togetherness, food, and celebratory spirit. While I'm not a huge cook, I do love a good pumpkin pie (with ice cream on top.)
ReplyDeletePumpkin pie is my favorite. I'll think of you this year and assume you are chowing down as fast as I am.
DeleteWe live far away from the family, so November is not quite the same to me. It used to mean getting together with a whole rowdy crew of people I adored. Now we invite friends who have nowhere else to go. I guess we adopt family for November, and that's okay too, right?
ReplyDeleteYes – I did that one year before my family grew so large. It was when I was in college. Quite a few of us were going to be spending Thanksgiving alone, so I invited them all over and we shared a meal and a lot of laughs. It's one of the Thanksgivings I remember best.
DeleteReally great! Thanks!
