Most people know spring is here by the buds sprouting on the trees, flower shoots peeking through the ground, birds singing in windowsills. Dying eggs and buying Easter dresses. Wondering about the size of last year’s swimming suit.
I’m not talking about the calendar date of spring. I’m talking about real spring. The kind a last-minute snowstorm can’t erase for any lengthy time.
To me, spring is here when my husband starts sorting through his rods and reels, checking online prices of new ones, ordering planting soil to make sure we are stocked up, and planning out new flowerbeds. The gleam in his eyes comes out of hibernation. He orders more plastic Easter eggs to fill for the big scavenger hunt. I’m not exaggerating when I say we have around 200. If he keeps adding to the collection year after year, we’ll soon have to move the hunt from a backyard to a park.
I have witnessed all of these signs over the last week, and I’m so excited. He’s been checking out sporting equipment, looking at the layout of our yard with a gardener’s eye, and he just bought more plastic eggs! (But no, I am not looking at or even thinking about my swimsuit.)
What are your tell-tale signs of spring?
Happy writing!

My telltale sign for spring is when the birds start chirping and baby animals start to appear. New life; earth is reborn. :)
ReplyDeleteGood description! Thanks!
DeleteFirst, the camelias. Then, the Japanese magnolias (tulip trees). After that, azaleas everywhere, and crepe myrtles. You really know, however, when the pecan trees bloom. You can fool every other bush, flower or tree, you cannot fool the pecan. Once it blooms, you will have no more freezes and may safely plant your tomatoes.
ReplyDeleteThat's cool. I didn't know pecan trees existed. Now I'll be looking them up. ;-)
DeleteHi Debi - the Spring bulbs - love them ... and here in Eastbourne they plant out the 'carpet gardens' along the Promenade on the seafront ... always a wonderful array of seasonal plantings. The Forsythia and the Magnolias bring large splashes of yellow, or pale pinks ... just love seeing everything start to bloom.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds as though you're well organised ... enjoy the lighter and warmer days - thanks for the visit - cheers Hilary
If you get a chance, share some pictures of the Carpet Gardens. :-)
DeleteThe Carpet Gardens sound lovely. It is a beautiful season.
ReplyDeleteHi Deb. I'm glad Spring is bringing new happiness and new projects. For us, it's a little different given the mild temps year round. I've been able to take long walks on our trails to combat pandemic boredom and lack of exercise, have done a few long overdue house projects, in lieu of vacation, all year long, and on and off. But there is a feeling of Spring in the way the world is moving around us with Easter preparations and my pear tree blooming. It's that new beginning feel. Hopefully a good one all around. We all sure need it.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy, I can feel your excitement.
Thanks for stopping by, Silvia! Good to hear from you. Pear tree--wow! Lucky you.

ReplyDeleteThank you for this wonderful post, I want to use this opportunity to share about My life how I strunggled with Hiv/Aids Disease before the Lord Jesus in my life as a candle light in the darkness. You showed me the meaning of faith with your words. I know that even when I cried all day thinking about how to recover, you were not sleeping, you were dear to me. I contacted the herbal center Dr Itua, who lived in West Africa. A friend of mine here in Hamburg is also from Africa. She told me about African herbs but I was nervous. I am very afraid when it comes to Africa because I heard many terrible things about them because of my Christianity. god for direction, take a bold step and get in touch with him in the email and then move to WhatsApp, he asked me if I can come for treatment or I want a delivery, I told him I wanted to know him I buy ticket in 2 ways to Africa To meet Dr. Itua, I went there and I was speechless from the people I saw there. Patent, sick people. Itua is a god sent to the world, I told my pastor about what I am doing, Pastor Bill Scheer. We have a real battle beautifully with Spirit and Flesh. Adoration that same night. He prayed for me and asked me to lead. I spent 2 weeks and 2 days in Africa at Dr Itua Herbal Home. After the treatment, he asked me to meet his nurse for the HIV test when I did it. It was negative, I asked my friend to take me to another nearby hospital when I arrived, it was negative. I was overwhite with the result, but happy inside of me. We went with Dr. Itua, I thank him but I explain that I do not have enough to show him my appreciation, that he understands my situation, but I promise that he will testify about his good work. Thank God for my dear friend, Emma, I know I could be reading this now, I want to thank you. And many thanks to Dr. Itua Herbal Center. He gave me his calendar that I put on my wall in my house. Dr. Itua can also cure the following diseases, HIV, Herpes, Neuromuscular Diseases , Hepatitis B, Inflammatory Liver, Diabetes,Inflammatory bowel disease ,Fibromyalgia, recover your ex.
